Closet Organization On a Budget February 17, 2009

Filed under: Cleaning House — Sarah Kimmel - Organized Mom @ 3:08 pm

I’ve officially started the “nesting” stage, and am getting very nervous that everything isn’t going to be ready by the time our son arrives (in 3 more months!)  So I have started the various projects needed to get it all ready.  If you recall from a while back I had converted my office closet into a linen closet because my linen closet was a “non-closet” as I called it.  Anyway, my office now needs to be converted into a baby’s room, so linen closet needs to be moved again… So here is the order of things that I need/ed to accomplish before the little man gets here.

First, move my office into the master bedroom.  Luckily we accomplished this pretty much right after I found out I was pregnant.  Nothing like preparing WAAAYYYY ahead of time.  :)

Next we needed to build some shelves into closet of the “music room” aka my husband’s office.  The linen closet is now moving into that closet, but it already inhabits several electronic equipment items.  When we lived in California and were pregnant with Maddie we were both working, and therefore had a lot more income then we do now.  So we had awesome closet systems built into our Master bedroom closet and Maddie’s room.  This time we have to be a little more conservative.  So I took some measurements and went to IKEA.  We purchased some bookshelves.  It was much cheaper then buying a whole closet system (I also checked Home Depot, but it was a bit more expensive).  Maddie already had a dresser in her closet, so we just needed some short shelves for toys, the music room had no need for drawers or hanging items, so we just needed some shelves for there.  We completed the 2 closets for a little over $100!  Here is the result…

I’m very pleased with the result, and the price!  I’ll continue to post the rest of my “to do” list as they come up… next time is organizing the paint job!
