Pantries can be frustrating spots in our homes.  You can never seem to find anything in them.  And, of course, they are never big enough to hold everything.  The problem, however, is not your pantry, but the organization of it.  This article will give you some tips to help you maximize space in your pantry so it will work better for you.

One of the easiest ways to maximize space in your pantry is to add one or more lazy susans.  These wood, metal, or plastic turntables come in a variety of sizes.  Simply sit it on a shelf and load it up.  A lazy susan makes it easy to see everything in your pantry because it allows you to quickly rotate items from the back to the front with a simple turn.  You can double the amount of space available in your pantry by stacking the items on your lazy susan.  This works especially well for canned goods.

Add Some Shelves

Another way to gain space in your pantry is to add some extra shelves.  If you have a lot of empty room in between your pantry shelves, consider adding some extra shelving to take advantage of that otherwise unusable area.  You can either add a free standing shelf on top of the existing shelves, or you can add an undershelf basket.  Both of these options will use that empty air in between your pantry shelves.  This effectively gives you double the storage space within the confines of your current pantry.

Don’t Forget the Door

One area of the pantry that can give you additional storage space, but that is often forgotten is the door.  There are a number of options available for on-the-door storage.  Which one will work best for you will depend on your needs and the configuration of your pantry.

If there is a gap between the door and the shelves in your pantry when the door is closed, consider adding a door rack that will hold a series of baskets and shelves on the inside of your pantry door.  This is a great place to store smaller items without taking up valuable real estate on the actual pantry shelves.  These on-the-door containers will also help make the little things in your pantry easier to see when you need them.

If you don’t have enough room to install baskets or shelves on the door, try hooks.  Hooks need less room than a door rack system does.  You can put them in strategic locations so they won’t hit the pantry shelves when the door is closed.  You can use these hooks to hold mesh bags that can store your seasoning packets, bags of popcorn, or other small items.

Another option if door space in your pantry is limited is to use an over-the-door pocket organizer.  You can use an organizer as is or you can modify it to fit on the inside of your pantry door.  These flexible organizers take up very little space and can hold a lot of things.  Additionally, these pocket organizers will keep the food items in your pantry visible and within easy reach.

Stack It Up

For another solution to maximize space in your pantry, use bins and other containers that will easily stack on top of each other.  This will allow you to make better use of the vertical room in your pantry.  By using clear containers, you will be able to see into them and easily know what each one holds.  And when it comes time to restock your pantry, these containers can be pulled out and refilled without a lot of hassle.  This is a fantastic way to store products that otherwise would not stack, such as pasta or crackers.

The pantry is one of the areas in the house that is hard to keep organized.  It is always being used, and many times it is not big enough to hold everything that you need it to hold.  There are some simple ways to maximize space in your pantry by allowing you to take advantage of every available inch of room.  These ideas will help to keep your pantry organized, keep everything in easy reach, and will create more storage space in your pantry.  I hope these ideas will help to maximize space in your pantry.
