If you are throwing a birthday party or another party for your child, you’ll want to have good snacks for the kids to eat.
And always make sure to have a little extra, you never know who might show up without having RSVP’ed!
Things to Consider: Kids Party Snacks
As you’re planning the food for the party, don’t forget to consider your time and space constraints, both for setup and for celebrating.
If you serve only finger-food, you won’t have to worry about providing silverware. Also, finger-food is easier for kids to eat on the go and tends to be less messy.
However, there are several great snack options that require a little more setup but can be well worth it.
One of the great things about party snacks for kids is that the snack itself can become a fun activity for the party. There are a lot of ways to get kids involved and allow them to customize their snacks. Picky eaters can make their treat just the way they like it, and all of the kids will enjoy having their own customized snack.
Here are a few party snack recipes and ideas to get you started!
Easy Snack Mix Recipe
- Chex cereal
- M&M’s candy
- Pretzel sticks
Note: Peanut allergies are fairly common, so check with parents ahead of time to make sure none of the children have any allergies.
Toss all the ingredients together in a large bowl—no need to worry about exact measurements of each ingredient, just eyeball roughly equal portions of each. The idea is to keep it easy! Put small paper cups next to the bowl so that kids can put a few handfuls in a cup and carry it with them, rather than crowding around the snack bowl.
Build-Your-Own Sundae Bar
- 2-3 varieties of ice cream
- Crushed cookies
- Sliced bananas
- Gummy Bears
- Chopped nuts
- Crushed cookies
- Chocolate chunks
- Caramel Sauce
- Whipped cream
- Hot fudge
Put all the toppings in separate serving bowls. Put a scoop of ice cream in each child’s bowl and let them pick their own toppings. To keep the mess to a minimum, have the kids bring their finished sundaes back to you and add the caramel sauce, hot fudge, or whipped cream yourself.
Mini Bagel Pizzas
- 12 mini bagels
- 1 bag shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 jar spaghetti sauce
- Pepperoni, chopped (optional)
Preheat oven to 350. Slice the bagels in half and arrange them close together on a cookie sheet. Spread a thin layer of spaghetti sauce on each, and top with cheese. Add the pepperoni if desired. Bake until the cheese is completely melted, about 10 minutes.
Individual Homemade Pretzels
- Premade pizza dough
- One beaten egg white
- Coarse salt
Preheat the oven to 375. Divide the dough into eight separate pieces. Roll each piece with your hands to shape it into a rope. Once the ropes are made, allow each child to shape their own pretzel.
You can help with this part, and feel free to play around with different shapes such as circles, hearts, or squares. Arrange the shaped pretzels on a cookie sheet and use a pastry brush to brush each one with egg white. Sprinkle with salt if desired. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
