Nothing is worse in the microwave than food that has EXPLODED all over it. Luckily it’s a cinch to get it clean with vinegar and baking soda. Start by adding 4 Tbsp. of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water. Once you have the baking soda all mixed in dip a rag into the mixture and wipe it on the inside surfaces of your microwave. Next, in a microwave safe glass bowl add equal parts vinegar and water. Then microwave it for 6 minutes (you want the water to be boiling or close to it). Then let it sit inside the microwave for another 10min. so it can do it’s magic. Finally, carefully remove the bowl and with a rag wipe down the inside of the microwave. If your stains are less stingy you can skip the baking soda wipe down and go right to the vinegar and water portion.

The Washing Machine

To get the most bang for your buck you’ll want to start by spraying your front loader washing machine’s gasket with white vinegar. The gasket is the rubbery front part of the machine where all the hair and mildew gather (as well as socks). Set your machine to its hottest cycle and add 2 cups of vinegar to the detergent dispenser. Then let it run through a hot water cycle. Next, you’ll add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the drum of your washing machine. Then again run a cycle on the hottest temperature. Once the second cycle is finished give the drum a quick wipe down inside and you have just got it clean with vinegar and baking soda.

Tile Grout

Grout is my nemesis. So when I heard I could get it clean with vinegar and baking soda I was all in. For less stubborn grout stains start with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and warm water. Spray the mixture onto the grout and let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrub off. If your grout needs a little more attention you can first add a paste of baking soda and water (think toothpaste thick). Next, spray the vinegar solution on top and give it a chance to bubble and fizz. When it’s done use a brush (old toothbrushes work awesome) and give your grout a good scrub before you rinse it with water.

The Dishwasher

Start with an empty dishwasher and put in a dishwasher safe container on the top rack with a cup of vinegar in it. Then run it through a load on its hottest temperature. To make your dishwasher extra clean sprinkle some baking soda onto the bottom of the dishwasher and run it through a second cycle on hot (can be a shortened cycle this time). Your dishwasher should be shining inside and smelling great.
