Thinking Outside the Cupcake Box

These cupcake recipes look so good you are not going to be able to stop thinking about them until you make some!

Sharing is caring!

Who doesn’t love cupcakes? Over the last few years with Cupcake reality shows and specialty cupcake shops popping up, they have increased in popularity like crazy.  There are thousands of different ways to decorate them and flavor combinations to try.  Anyone can mix up a cake mix from a box but why not get a little creative? Unfortunately not all of us are talented cake decorators! So, here are some amazing cupcakes that we have found–that not only look great but taste fantastic and need little to no decorating skills!

Rootbeer Float Cupcakes

A friend brought me these a few years ago and I loved them.  I loved the rootbeer taste.  They were different from anything I had had before.  These would be great for a summertime neighborhood block party or kid’s birthday party.  And they are easy to decorate and make them  look cute with a cherry on top and a paper straw.

Strawberry Cupcakes with Strawberry Buttercream Frosting

These cupcakes may be a little more work than some of the other strawberry cupcake recipes that you can fin on Pinterest but they are worth it! They have a great strawberry flavor because they are made with strawberry puree, chopped fresh strawberries, and more strawberries blended into the frosting.  And they look cute with a strawberry for decoration on top.  The only drawback–you may need to wait until strawberry season to make them!

Salted Caramel Cupcakes

Every thing with salted caramel is good.  If you don’t know that already you need to try these salted caramel cupakes.  The cake is super moist and delicious.  They are decorated with chopped up english toffee and drizzled with salted caramel sauce.  Anyone can sprinkle chopped toffee and drizzle sauce right? They look yummy and taste even better!

Lemon Cupcakes with Raspberry Buttercream

The pictures of these cupcakes make my mouth water.  If the pictures have the same effect on you…make them! The real thing is even better.  They are beautiful and the combination of raspberry and lemon would be perfect for a baby shower.

Apple Pie Cupcakes

These apple pie cupcakes would be great in the fall when apples are in season or for a 4th of July party.  They are made with a snickerdoodle cake recipe, simple vanilla buttercream frosting, and yummy apple pie filling.

Oreo Cupcakes

My husband loves  anything with Oreos especially an oreo milkshake or oreo ice cream.  What he (and my kids) don’t love is frosting.  They don’t love typical buttercream or cream cheese frosting that is often found on cupcakes.  These were perfect for them because the frosting is made with whipped cream and crushed oreos.  They loved them!

Maple Bacon Cupcakes

Nothing is more out of the box than Maple Bacon Cupcakes! There is something amazing about the combination of maple and bacon.  Have you heard that everything is better with bacon? Try these to see if that is even true for cupcakes!
