Looking for ways to make your child’s birthday special without throwing a big bash or spending a ton on presents? Below are some simple, inexpensive ways to show your birthday boy or girl just how very much they mean to you!
1 Decorate Their Rooms
While they are sleeping, sneak in and decorate their room. Hang signs and streamers or even cover their whole floor with balloons. For the light sleeper, pick up a balloon bouquet and slip it in the room. Just imagine how excited your child will be to wake up in a their party room!
2 Break out the Fancy Dishes
Chances are you save the fine china for special occasions. Using your fanciest bowl to serve the birthday boy his cereal will show him how special he is! Or, a special plate you only take out on birthdays!
3 Let Them Eat Cake
Give your kiddo a cupcake for breakfast! This breaks all the rules! But when you think about it, how different is a cupcake than a doughnut or a pastry?
4 Wrap their Lunch
Who doesn’t love unwrapping presents? Keep the fun going by wrapping their sandwich and snacks in birthday wrapping paper.
5 Wake them Up
Wake your birthday boy or girl before anyone else is awake. Spend some time cuddling and tell them the story of the day they were born.
6 Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Part of the fun of a birthday is the anticipation of the gifts! Plan a scavenger hunt to keep them in suspense a little longer.
7 Leave them Notes
Grab a pad of sticky notes and write down a bunch of things you love about your kiddo. Put the notes all over – the bathroom mirror, their lunch, their dinner plate, their pillow, so they have reminders all day long of how special they are.
8 Make their Siblings Be Nice
It’s a rule in our house that all the family members have to extra nice to the birthday boy or girl! After a while, the kids will start being extra nice without reminders.
9 Measure Them
Kids love to see how big they are getting. Pick a door or a spot on a wall to mark your kids’ height each year on their birthday.
10 Skip the Gift Bag
Gift bags are cute and convenient, but there’s something so satisfying about ripping paper off a present!
Make your child’s birthday special this year and for all the birthdays to come by incorporating one of these ideas as a new yearly tradition!
