Wondering what materials you need on hand to start your kindergarten homeschooling adventure? Here are some of my favorites.

Pencils and Sharpener

One of the most important things for homeschool kindergarteners is a good supply of pencils and a sharpener. Pencils are great for writing, drawing, and coloring. They are also perfect for those times when your child needs to take a break from homeschooling and just wants to do some fun art projects.

There are many types of pencils out there for kindergartners. Some prefer thicker pencils, some triangular pencils, and some with a grip. It may take a couple tries to find the perfect pencil for your kindergartener.

Here are some of our favorites.

A pencil sharpener is also a must-have, especially if you plan on using pencils for homeschooling. A dull pencil is no fun to use and can make homeschooling more difficult than it needs to be.

You can use hand sharpeners or electric ones – your choice!

Crayons

Crayons are another homeschooling essential for kindergarten. They are perfect for coloring, drawing, and creating masterpieces. Crayons are also an excellent way to teach your child about colors and how to mix them together.

I know we all love the huge boxes of many colors, but consider getting smaller 8 color packs as well. Most kindergarten activities and curriculum will stick to basic and primary colors.

Markers

Markers are great for homeschool kindergarteners because they can be used for so many different things. You can use them for drawing, coloring, and even writing. Markers are also a great way to teach your child about different colors and how to mix them together.

A Good Printer & Lots of Paper

One homeschooling supply that’s often overlooked is a good printer. A printer can be used to print out worksheets, coloring pages, and other homeschooling materials.
