Dropcam HD Wi-Fi Wireless Video Camera Review and GIVEAWAY!

UPDATE: Giveaway is now closed. Thank you everyone who participated!

I recently went back to work full-time, and I am so excited to share with you my new favorite tech device that helps keep our kids safe and secure while I am away. Introducing… the Dropcam!

The Dropcam is a high-definition WiFi video camera for home or work. It displays a high quality picture that works beautifully with a laptop or computer. Plus, with the free mobile app, you can watch remotely from your iPhone, iPad or Android device too! The Dropcam has some really cool additional features as well. It also has two-way audio that works with a built-in microphone and speaker. That means I can not only see, but also hear everything going on in my home. I can also speak to my kids as they move about the house. Seriously, so cool!

My other favorite Dropcam feature is the ability to receive motion and sound alerts by email or device notifications. Every time someone comes in or out of my home, I receive an alert to my phone. This is fabulous for me because I want to know if my kids are arriving home on time from school, but as I am at work, I can’t sit and watch the camera feed all day long. The camera has fabulous night vision, so this is also a great feature for evenings, and when you are away from home.

Here’s a peak at my two teens just after arriving home from school. They are supposeds to come home and do their homework first thing… looks like these two are prioritizing their day with cell phone time and snacks first. :)

Our camera sits directly above our kitchen cabinets, and the wide angle lens allows me to see perfectly into our kitchen, family room, and if you look closely you can even see the front door. I love that I can see so many areas just from this one camera!

There are  many other fabulous features with the Dropcam! You can share your stream with friends, or make it public and show the world your feed through the Dropcam website. (I have seen several pet stores do this. Think adorable puppies twenty-four hours a day!)  You can also focus on what’s happening in one area of the room with the cameras digital zoom feature. Don’t want your camera running all day long? You can take  schedule the camera to turn on and off based on the time of day. The folks at Dropcam have really thought of everything!

The cost of a Dropcam camera is $149, and this comes with the free Dropcam Live service. That means you can login and watch from your devices anytime, day or night. This also includes motion and sound detection, and email or smartphone alerts. If you want your video stream to be recorded, rates start at under $10 a month. (Go HERE to learn more.)

Allrighty, now that you have heard all about my absolute favorite tech device, it’s time for a GIVEAWAY! Dropcam has graciously donated one Dropcam camera for one lucky Organized Mom reader. While I would like to put this in the baby’s room, for now I think I’d place it to cover one of the exits of our home- possibly the basement as we’ve has a few problems with my teen sneaking out.

  3. Amber Katausky

I’ve got a baby coming in January, and would love to use this to help keep an eye on the two older kids while nursing. Definitely a must for either living room, or kids play room.

  4. Laura J

I would love to put it facing outside the front door and driveway! We get so many people selling stuff…and being home alone often…I am nervous to open the front door. I would love this to see better who is out there first!

  5. Rachel Schneider

i would use it for home security, since people have tried to break into my house on multiple occasions.

  6. Brittney

I would put it in my 4 year old’s room. After I put him to bed, he keeps sneaking into his closet to stay up and play. This way I could make sure he goes to bed.

  7. Christina

I would pi this camera in the playroom. It would give me just a little bit of freedom with peace of mind.

  8. Becky VanGinkel

I would definitely put this in our girls’ room who are 3 and 7 months. It would reassure me and I could relax a little more being able to monitor them without interrupting their sleep or my 3 year old playing :)

  9. Ashley

I would place it right by the front door. My house was just Broken into a week ago. I’m feeling very vulnerable and violated right now so a camera would help give me some peace of mind.

  10. Marti B.

I’d put it in the great room overlooking the kitchen, so I could see who’s raiding the fridge at night!

  11. Les Johnson

I would use it as home security and probably put it in my garage area or living room.
