We all know drinking a lot of water keeps our bodies and minds healthy. But sometimes what we’re supposed to do doesn’t actually translate into doing. So I’m sharing four easy ways to incorporate drinking more water into your life that will keep you happy and hydrated.
Have you heard the saying, “If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.”? Well, it turns out that this is actually true. But don’t worry, you’re not in danger of becoming seriously dehydrated just because you feel a little parched. Being thirsty is just the body’s way of letting you know you need to drink more fluids.
Apps and Alarms
If you’re like many people, you have your phone nearby a good portion of the day. Setting an alarm is a simple way to remind yourself to get a drink. You could set it for every couple of hours or so and make a goal to drink a certain amount in between each alarm. If you want to take it a step further, search the app store for a water drinking app. Many of them have a built-in alarm system and allow you to track/log your liquid intake.
Use a Straw
Did you know that there are many people who swear that by drinking through a straw, that they actually drink more water during the day? I can say that from personal experience, this is true! Chalk it up to laziness, but it’s easier to pick up a cup and take a sip through a straw than it is to put your mouth on the lip of a cup or to unscrew a lid/cap to take a drink.
Fun Water Bottle or Cup
There are some people I know who put a “timeline” on their bottles which helps keep them on track during the day because they know how much they’ve had to drink. Picking out a water bottle or cup that you like the look of can also help you feel more motivated to drink more water. Additionally, using a water bottle that is clear can help you see just how much water you have left which can also encourage you to finish it off.
If drinking plain water isn’t appealing to you, try adding a little flavor. Lemons, limes, berries, and mint are just a few refreshing choices. If you’re looking for a stronger flavor, grab some flavor packets or liquid flavoring from the store and keep it with you at home, at work, in your bag, and in your car so you always have a little something to add to your water. This would also be a good way to save a little money when you go out to eat because you can order water, add a little flavor and you’re still staying hydrated.
By making a few small changes to your day, you’ll be able to drink more water and you won’t even break a sweat. *wink* Although if you do, you’ll have your water nearby to cool you off.
