Being a mom, you often wear many different hats, which means our wardrobe needs to be comfortable, flexible and easy. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have style! I’ve put together wardrobe items every mom needs in her closet so check them out below and let me know if you agree!
A cardigan is a classic layering and transitional piece. This means that you can wear a cardigan year round. There are so many styles available: long, short, with buttons, chunky, lightweight, long-sleeve, patterned, plain and the list goes on. You can wear them with a dress or a tee shirt. Not to mention, they are great to bring with you if you tend to get a little cold and easy to take off if you get hot. I love these tips from Inside Out Style about how to layer different cardigans with different tops.
Skinny jeans are a great choice for moms because you can dress them up or down which cuts down on the amount of shopping you have to do. I’ll be honest, I mocked the whole skinny jean trend when it re-emerged. When I thought of skinny jeans, I thought back to pictures I’d seen of my mom wearing high-waisted, acid-wash jeans. But I soon realized that the original trend had been improved and now I own and wear more skinny jeans than I do anything else. The good news about skinny jeans is that they come in all different fits. If you like the high-waisted look, there are skinny jeans for you. If a mid- or low-rise is your style, you can find those too. Check out this guide from Stitch Fix on how to find the right jeans for your body.
I. love. flats. As a busy mom, I don’t have time for shoes that take a lot of time to put on because I’m usually running out the door for one thing or another. The key to a good pair of flats is making sure they are comfortable. Yes, they might be cute, but if you can’t wear them all day without wanting to cry, then you need to look for a different pair. Flats are a great way to add a little pop of style to whatever you’ve put on that day because they come in every color, pattern, and style imaginable. Plus, they look great with skinny jeans, skirts, and dresses.
A good pencil skirt is a must for a mom. It’s a great way to change up your wardrobe without having to put a lot of effort into it. The type of pencil skirt I’m talking about has stretch, is long enough that you aren’t pulling it down all the time and can be dressed up or down. Personally, I love floral skirts and think they can be extremely versatile, but a simple striped or solid color skirt is also a great option. Check out this post from Sunshine & Munchkins for 4 ways to style a pencil skirt.
For the longest time, all I wore were skirts and a top whenever I wanted or needed to dress up. Finding a dress that was long enough for me was challenging until maxi dresses became popular. Just like a pencil skirt, maxi dresses can be worn for everyday errands or dressed up and worn for a night out. Maxi dresses are flattering on every body type and combine easy movement and style into one beautiful piece.
Graphic tees are everywhere. They are a fun way to express yourself as a person because there is literally something for everyone. And if you can’t find one you love, you can always go to Etsy and look around for custom shirts. Graphic tees can be worn with a cardigan, a skirt or skinny jeans. Another thing I love about graphic tees is that they tend to be a little more fitted than a regular t-shirt. This automatically creates a more put together look.
